Architecture of Autonomy (2020) developed over two years and sees Kristina’s sculptural approach to design evolve across mediums and join forces with multi-disciplinary creatives across film, dance, and circus. Motivated by collaboration and personal experiences, an exploration of independence and connection unfolds through a design series, short film, and exhibition.

A search for a blueprint of how independence is built lead Kristina to research architectural practices, spatial design, and social movements. The resulting designs, which includes accessories, sculptures, and a set of prosthetic legs, become initiators of movement both physically and emotionally, that come to life in Architecture of Autonomy: The Film, a short film exploring independence and connection through artistic movement.

The short film vignettes powerful expressions of individual and collective movement, emphasizing the we are stronger together than we are alone. Through the lens of Mae Sass, five female dancers and circus artists are transported across evolving landscapes. The movement direction of choreographer Cathy Waller, original music composed by saxophonist Trish Clowes, and dream-like garments from ROBERTS|WOOD are blended into a meditative, ethereal experience.

The accompanying exhibition, set in the likeness of Kristina’s studio, showcases the film, designs, and a behind-the-scenes view into the development process and the inspirations of the project.
